    I use one to set my edge thickness before grinding. You can use one for "file work". A mill can also be used to make tools and fixtures that are used in knifemaking such as parts for grinders, filing and honing jigs. And my favorite use of a mill so far is you can mount a stir in a chuck and mix epoxy with it.

    PSF 27 is a D2 class steel. It's spray formed unlike particle metallurgy. Because of this, according to the manufacturer "The Spray Forming Process allows for rapid solidification resulting in materials with a very fine grain and homogeneous structure". It's this manufacturing practice that appears to offer it more toughness.

    21,110. Aug 8, 2010. #2. cut your overall shape with a side cutter. either clamp the blade flat and use a face cutter, or clamp it vertical and use a side cutter to profile the edge. I would definitely not try to hog out the profile in only one pass. it'll be interesting to see what design you come up with and what overall results.

    The liners and scales for this knife start out life as 4 x1 rectangles of material. All of the holes are indexed (using the DRO s) off the rear-right corner of the fixture (set to 0,0). The photo below shows some of my working sheets. I try to call out X&Y coordinates and tool info.
