King tides are the highest tides. They are naturally occurring, predictable events. Tides are the movement of water across Earth's surface caused by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon, Sun, and the rotation of Earth which manifest in the local rise and fall of sea levels.
Also known as the "Queen of the Coast", Rincon is one of the most famous surf spots in California, known around the world for its well-formed waves and long rides. [1] [2] The book 100 Best Surf Spots in the World rates Rincon at 24. [3] It is best at low tide during the winter months when swells are coming mostly from the west and northwest.
The National Weather Service projects that a 7-foot king tide will hit Orange County beaches Friday and Saturday between 7 and 9 in the morning.
