Bape Store Harajuku, Tokyo BAPE store deployed in Hong Kong (2006-2011). A Bathing Ape (Japanese: ア・ベイシング・エイプ, Hepburn: A beishingu eipu), also known as BAPE, is a Japanese fashion brand founded by Nigo (Tomoaki Nagao) in Ura-Harajuku in 1993.
Nigo's venture into fashion started when he founded A Bathing Ape in 1993. [4] Hiroshi Fujiwara is considered his mentor. [4] He initially sold a few Bape Hoodies and T-shirts and camouflage print hoodies in a small store, items which became very popular among teenagers.
Prior to this, in the 90s, Rei Kawakubo from Comme des Garçons had already worked with the brand by displaying their products in the Aoyama flagship store. [5] In 2009, fashion brand BAPE (A Bathing Ape) collaborated with them on a series of t-shirts including the 12-piece limited edition Chrome Hearts X BABY MILO. [22]
A year later, Billionaire Boys Club branched out from its online origin, setting up a store in Tokyo, Japan and later expanding to New York and London.
