The Cannon Ball Route was a historic auto trail that ran from Kansas City, Missouri, east-northeast to Chicago, Illinois, by way of Hannibal, Missouri, and Quincy, Illinois. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] A branch of the route connected the Missouri section of the highway to Des Moines, Iowa , by way of Leon, Iowa .

Interstate 70 (I-70) in the US state of Missouri is generally parallel to the Missouri River.This section of the transcontinental interstate begins at the Kansas state line on the Lewis and Clark Viaduct, running concurrently with U.S. Route 24 (US 24), US 40 and US 169, and the east end is on the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge in St. Louis.
US 40, along with I-70, US 24, and US 169, enters Kansas City via the Intercity Viaduct. US 169 exits the freeway north to the Buck O'Neil Bridge and I-35 joins with the remaining three routes. At the interchange with I-29 and US 71, I-70, US 24, and US 40 turn south while I-35 turns north.
