Neighbours is a long-running Australian television soap opera first broadcast on the Seven Network on 18 March 1985. During 2008, Neighbours' underwent a major revamp and former Australian Idol contestant Dean Geyer joined the show as permanent cast member, Ty. [8] Geyer worked with the Neighbours drama coach, Mike Bishop, for four months to help prepare for the role and took vocal lessons to help with his South African accent. [8]
Former Australian Idol contestant, Daniel O'Connor, joined the cast as Ned Parker in August, along with three members of the Kinski family. Paul Robinson's youngest daughter, Elle began appearing from September and the final member of the Kinski family, Katya, arrived in December.
