The Department of History offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Concentrations are available in the geographic areas of Asia, Europe, and the United States with specializations within each field.
General Requirements. Under state law, all students who receive bachelor's degrees from Texas Tech University must complete 6 hours in American history. Students will normally fulfill this requirement by completing 6 hours from among the American history courses listed as (US) in the course list.

The Doctor of Philosophy in History Program requires sixty hours beyond the B.A./B.S. degree. Thirty of those hours must be taken at Texas Tech University. All Department of History graduate courses are face-to-face.
Ron Milam is a Fulbright Scholar to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the founding Faculty advisor to the Veterans’ Association at Texas Tech. He teaches both halves of the U.S. Survey, the Vietnam War, and graduate and undergraduate courses in Military History.
