The North Alabama Railroad Museum, Inc. is a railroad museum in Huntsville, Alabama.The museum, incorporated in 1966, is an all volunteer organization. The museum has a collection of rolling stock, a small train station, and a small heritage railroad called the Mercury and Chase Railroad which operates between April and December.
The museum was first opened in 1959 in North Brunswick, New Jersey as the Johnston Memorial Museum. [2] With the relocation of the Scouting America National Headquarters from New Jersey to Texas, the museum closed in 1979. [3] In 1986 the museum reopened on the campus of Murray State University in western Kentucky. [4]
Merit badges are awards earned by members of the Boy Scouts of America, based on activities within the area of study by completing a list of periodically updated requirements. [1] The purpose of the merit badge program is to allow Scouts to examine subjects to determine if they would like to further pursue them as a career or vocation.
The Trail to Eagle area is located in the Program Center in the middle of camp. This area includes merit badges that are required by the Boy Scouts of America to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. Merit badges in this area include Communications, Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation, Personal Fitness, and Personal Management. [7]

Previously, a few awards for lifetime merit were given in other, lower grades that are now exclusive to youth Scouts for their conservation efforts. The William T. Hornaday Award Gold Badge was created in 2000 to recognize conservationists with lesser influential service of more than three years, to be awarded at the council level.
These different areas offer a wide variety of merit badges; including some Eagle Scout required merit badges such as Camping, Environmental Science, First Aid, Swimming, Lifesaving and Emergency Preparedness. For merit badge requirements and recreation, there are shooting ranges for shotguns, rifles, and archery.
In addition to the Tech Center, the camp offers Shooting Sports, Handicraft, Ecology, Scoutcraft, Trailshead and Aquatics areas. A program that is unique to Camp Olmsted is the X-Pride program, which provides an opportunity for older Scouts to participate in high-adventure activities while the younger Scouts in their troop work on merit badges.
