A swordsmith who makes swords for the Demon Slayer Corps, who made Inosuke's blades and is later assigned to make Muichiro Tokito's blade. Despite being calmer than Hotaru, he is also angered at Inosuke purposely chipping his swords. He is nearly killed during Gyokko's attack on the Swordsmith Village, but Muichiro saves him. Near death, Muichiro sees a vision of Tanjiro, who assures him that someone will come; Kotetsu appears and fruitlessly stabs the watery pot until he is attacked by a small demon. Muichiro dissuades him from trying to help when Kotetsu blows bubbles into the pot, giving him sufficient air to break free.

Early sketches of Nezuko and Tanjiro. Tanjiro Kamado originates from Koyoharu Gotouge's ideas involving a one-shot with Japanese motifs. Back at the village, Mitsuri hints at Tanjiro about a "secret weapon" hidden in the village that can make him stronger and bids farewell to the siblings. The next day, while searching for the secret weapon, Tanjiro meets with Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and sees that seemingly with him is the same figure from his dream.
