Luverne (/ l ə ˈ v ɜːr n / lə-VURN) [3] is a city in and the county seat of Rock County, Minnesota, United States, along the Rock River. The population was 4,946 at the 2020 census . [ 4 ] It is one of four towns profiled in the 2007 Ken Burns documentary The War .
The first and largest community, Luverne, was established in 1867 and platted in 1872, a later start to settlement than most other parts of Minnesota. Rail lines were constructed in the 1870s and 80s, directly influencing the placement of most of the rest of Rock County's towns.
