The College of Arts and Letters is one of the academic colleges at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. It includes the Schools of Communication, Information, and Media, the School of Liberal Arts, and the School of Public and International Affairs.
The Breeze is also known to many JMU alumni and current students for its long-standing tradition of publishing Darts & Pats. Founded in 1908 as a women's college, James Madison University was established by the Virginia General Assembly. It was originally called The State Normal and Industrial School for Women at Harrisonburg. In 1914, the name of the university was changed to the State Normal School for Women at Harrisonburg.
The James Madison Dukes men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports team of James Madison University. As of the 2022 season, the Dukes are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Sun Belt Conference. They began play in 1968. [2] The Dukes play their home games at Sentara Park. [3]

The Royal Rivalry refers to the college rivalry games between the James Madison Dukes and the Old Dominion Monarchs of the Sun Belt Conference. It is an intra-conference match-up between two Div. I FBS public universities, James Madison University and Old Dominion University , in the Commonwealth of Virginia .
Godwin Hall is a building on the campus of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, housing the School of Kinesiology, the School of Theatre and Dance, and the JMU Athletics department. It is named after Virginia governor Mills E. Godwin , and his wife and JMU alumna Katherine Godwin.
Marching band is offered as a two-credit applied music class at JMU. [7] As a result, the Marching Royal Dukes continuously retain one of the largest college marching band rosters in the country, sizing up at 535 members for their 2024 season. [8] The MRDs are open to all majors and to students from local community colleges.
