The National Tube Works, operated by the National Tube Company, was a large steel tube foundry located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The tube works employed a large amount of the town and were a symbol of the town itself. Its closure in 1987 severely impacted the town's economy and contributed towards its decline.

The McKeesport Area School District operates two elementary schools; Francis McClure and Twin Rivers, one middle school; Founder's Hall and one high school; the McKeesport Area High School. The Carnegie Free Library in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, is a Public Library built with funds from Pittsburgh steel magnate Andrew Carnegie. McKeesport is located about 15 miles up the Monongahela River from Pittsburgh. The grant for this library was commissioned April 2, 1899.
The McKeesport Transportation Center is currently served by the Port Authority of Allegheny County and Heritage Community Transportation.
