Shelby Charter Township, officially the Charter Township of Shelby, is a charter township located in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The township is an affluent northern suburb of Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the population was 79,408, [2] up from 73,804 in 2010.
Mound Road is a north-south divided highway running from a junction with Mt. Elliott Street in Detroit to Auburn Road north of M-59 in Shelby Township. It runs parallel to M-53/Van Dyke Road one mile to the west.
As of the census [1] of 2000, there were 3,951 people, 1,388 households, and 1,059 families residing in the township. The population density was 109.8 per square mile (42.4/km 2 ). There were 1,502 housing units at an average density of 41.7 per square mile (16.1/km 2 ).

Washington Township is in northwestern Macomb County and is bordered to the west by Oakland County. The village of Romeo is partially in the northeast part of the township. Ray Township is to the east, Shelby Township is to the south, and Bruce Township is to the north. Washington Township is 28 to 34 miles (45 to 55 km) north of downtown Detroit.
The road ends briefly at River Bends Park in Shelby Township (becoming Auburn Road), and continues just north of 22 Mile Road. East-west travel is mainly on the "mile roads," beginning at 14 Mile Road through 20 Mile Road (M-59). 16 Mile Road, also known as Metro Parkway, is another major "mile road".
