Thomas John Miller (born August 11, 1944) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 33rd Attorney General of Iowa from 1995 to 2023. After the defeat of West Virginia Attorney General Darrell McGraw in 2012 when running for reelection, Miller became the longest serving State Attorney General in the United States.
In 1973, the Virginia General Assembly requested that he file suit against the Voting Rights Act. Miller duly did so. [10] In 1976, he was awarded the Wyman Memorial Award, given to an "Outstanding American Attorney General." Miller resigned as attorney general in January 1977 to run for governor, as is the convention in Virginia.
In the early days of Trump's presidency, Miller worked with Senator Jeff Sessions, Trump's nominee for Attorney General, and Steve Bannon, Trump's chief strategist, to enact policies through executive orders to restrict immigration and crack down on sanctuary cities.
