Islamabad Capital Territory Police (Urdu: اسلام آباد دارلحکومت علاقہ پولیس), also known as Islamabad Police, [1] is a police force formed in 1981 to police Islamabad Capital Territory, Pakistan under administrative control of the Chief Commissioner, Islamabad Capital Territory Administration.
Each police force has a Commissioner of Police appointed as Inspector-General who is a senior officer from the Police Service of Pakistan. [4] Some provincial police forces are routinely supported by federal paramilitary units operating in that area. All provincial police forces contain Counter Terrorism Department and Special Branch.
The Police Department was established on the pattern of an earlier success story in Pakistan, National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) which was established in 1997. [2] The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) came of age between 2007 and 2010 and came to be known as a corruption free and equal application of law police organization.
