The 6.2L diesel emerged as a high-fuel-economy alternative to the V8 gasoline engine lineup, and achieved better mileage than Chevrolet's 4.3L V6 gasoline engine of the 1980s, at a time when the market was focused on power rather than efficiency.
The 6.0 L is a larger version of the LS engine. 6.0 L blocks were cast of iron, designed to bridge the gap between the new small blocks and big blocks in truck applications. There were two versions of this engine: LQ4 and LQ9, the latter being more performance oriented.
The engines were also sold for marine and stationary applications. In a 1938 reorganization, Winton Engine Corporation became the GM Cleveland Diesel Engine Division, and GM's Detroit Diesel Engine Division began production of smaller (50–149 cu in (0.8–2.4 L) per cylinder) diesel engines. The LGH engine is rated at 335 bhp (250 kW) at 3,100 rpm and 685 lb⋅ft (929 N⋅m) at 1,600 rpm.
The GMC V6 is a family of 60-degree V6 engines produced by the GMC division of General Motors from 1959 through 1974. It was developed into both gasoline and diesel versions, and produced in V8 and V12 derivatives. Examples of this engine family were found in pickup trucks, Suburbans, heavier trucks, and motor coaches.
While similar in displacement to the other 4.3–4.4 L (265–267 cu in) V8 engines produced by General Motors (including the Oldsmobile 260 and Pontiac 265), the small bore 267 shared no parts with the other engines and was phased out after the 1982 model year due to inability to conform to emission standards. Chevrolet vehicles eventually ...
For 1985, the long-running 250 inline-6 (the standard C/K engine since 1966) was replaced by the 262-cubic-inch (4.3 L) V6. [ 2 ] [ 7 ] As the Rounded-Line series were redesignated the R/V trucks for 1987, several changes were made to the powertrain line.
The 2007 Sierra Denali was initially the only half-ton pickup that had a 6.2L V8 engine with 403 hp (301 kW) and 417 lb⋅ft (565 N⋅m) of torque coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Denali is also an optional all-wheel-drive vehicle and can reach 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 6.3 seconds.
