The Department of Health (Manx: Rheynn Slaynt) was a department of the Isle of Man Government.It was created on 1 April 2010, taking on the health services and public health functions of the former Department of Health and Social Security.
The Department of Health and Social Care (Manx: Rheynn Slaynt as Kiarail y Theay) is the largest (by number of personnel and budget) of the seven departments of the Isle of Man Government. It was created on 1 April 2014 as a result of a merger of health and social care services from the former Department of Health and Department of Social Care.
Prior to the separation of its component parts on 1 April 2010, the DHSS was the largest employer on the Isle of Man, with over 3,000 members of staff. The DHSS was largely replaced by two new Departments, the Department of Health and the Department of Social Care, with some Social Security functions transferring to the Isle of Man Treasury.
