Maxwell House is an American brand of coffee manufactured by a like-named division of Kraft Heinz in North America and JDE Peet's in the rest of the world. Introduced in 1892 by wholesale grocer Joel Owsley Cheek, it was named in honor of the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee, which was its first major customer. [1]
The Maxwell House Hotel was a major hotel in downtown Nashville. Because of its stature, seven US Presidents and other prominent guests stayed there over the years. It was built by Colonel John Overton Jr. and named for his wife, Harriet (Maxwell) Overton. The architect was Isaiah Rogers. [1]
Maxwell House is a historic home located near Stedman, Cumberland County, North Carolina.It consists of two sections: a coastal cottage form log section dated to about 1790–1815 and a two-story, five-bay, transitional Federal / Greek Revival style section dated to about 1845.
They persuaded the owners of the Maxwell House Hotel to serve their coffee, and they use the name of the hotel as their coffee brand. [1] They began using the slogan "good to the last drop" in 1917. [1] In 1928, Cheek sold the brand to Postum Co. for $42 million; it was subsequently purchased by General Foods. [1]
Along with the shop's co-founders, the shop convinced the owners of the historic Maxwell House Hotel to use their coffee, forming Maxwell House Coffee. [1] O'Neal's nephew, Herschel Duncan, developed the blend for the Maryland Club, which became one of the better known brands of the time and formed the Duncan Coffee Company.
The station is named for the Second Ward neighborhood as well as a former Maxwell House coffee manufacturing plant. Maxwell House began operations at the plant in 1948 and sold the plant to Maximus Coffee Group in 2006, [1] which operated the plant under the Atlantic Coffee Solutions brand until 2018. [2]

The Wilkins Estate is a historic estate in Rockville, Maryland, built in 1916 by Robert Crew Wilkins, later an executive of the Wilkins Coffee Co. [1] (later a part of Maxwell House coffee), founded in 1923 in Washington, D.C., by a relation, John H. Wilkins, Sr. [2]
