Thomasville Furniture began as Thomasville Chair Company in 1904, making 500 to 1000 chairs a day by 1905. Thomas Jefferson Finch and Charles F. Finch of Randolph County bought the company in 1907. Thomasville High School is known for its football program. When the program began in 1910, the team was known as the Thomasville Red Cyclones. This changed in 1923, when they were given permission by the University of Georgia to use the Bulldog mascot. The school colors were initially red and black.
