Arti plate. Arti (Hindi: आरती, romanized: Āratī) or Aarati (Sanskrit: आरात्रिक, romanized: Ārātrika) [1] [2] is a Hindu ritual employed in worship, part of a puja, in which light from a flame (fuelled by camphor, ghee, or oil) is ritually waved to venerate deities.
The aarti is performed by 21 young Brahmin priests and 24 young women. [8] The rituals involve chanting hymns, rhythmic drum beating, conch shell blowing, and brazier burning. [9] Boat rides (in boats of all sizes) along the riverfront in the evening are popular among tourists, when all the ghats are lit with lamps and aarti is being performed. [5]

They are prātaḥ-kālaḥ (early morning), pūrvahna (forenoon), madhyāhna (around noon), aparāhna (afternoon), sāyāhna (evening). As per Hindu traditional calendar, the day [ note 1 ] which starts with sunrise (i.e. from midnight of previous night until sunrise is considered part of previous day).
