With gold arches placed over a glass and metal, red-and-white tiled exterior, the building largely followed the McDonald brothers' original blueprints, which they had introduced when they began franchising in 1953.
Kroc's 1955 McDonald's franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois, the 9th in the chain, was demolished in 1984, but a replica was built on the original foundation and was described as the McDonald's No. 1 Store Museum. The replica was also demolished due to repeated issues with flooding, with the sign removed in January 2018.
