Merrill City Hall was constructed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style and made of local brick, sandstone, and virgin timber. [3] Currently, the building serves as an apartment complex known as the Merrill City Hall Apartments.

The Wisconsin River forms the eastern border of the town except for where the river passes through Merrill. According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 30.8 square miles (79.8 km 2 ), of which 30.2 square miles (78.1 km 2 ) are land and 0.66 square miles (1.7 km 2 ), or 2.12%, are water.
