St Albert the Great Church was founded in 1950, as a response by the Archdiocese of Boston to the city's massive population growth. [2] The city's population more than doubled from 1940 to 1960, partially because of a new naval air station that opened in 1941, and partially because of the exodus from cities and into suburbs that began with the proliferation of the automobile.
Saint Albert, located on Gleason Avenue, was dedicated on June 7, 1964. It replaced Saint Francis, Mount Loretto, and St. Joseph High Schools. In 1969 three elementary schools, St. Francis, St. Patrick, and St. Peter consolidated into St. Albert's Schools, as did the remainder of the archdiocese's elementary schools in Council Bluffs in 1972. St. Albert's HSS (St. Albert's Higher Secondary School) is a boys school at Banerji Road in Kochi, India. It was popularly known as St. Albert's High School till 1998, when it was upgraded to a higher secondary school. It is the oldest boys school in Kochi. It has 1800 students and 85 teachers and non teaching staff on a five-acre (2.0 ha) campus.
