North Shore Central School District (also known as Central School District No. 1) is a public school district in Nassau County, New York.It serves several villages and hamlets in the North Shore region of Long Island, specifically Glenwood Landing, Glen Head, Sea Cliff, Old Brookville, and parts of Greenvale and Roslyn Harbor. In the mid-20th Century, the Roosevelt Union Free School District, like the hamlet of the same name which it primarily serves, fell victim to real estate blockbusting, leading to the then-predominantly-white neighborhood and district rapidly gaining a large African American community, leading to major racial imbalances and causing a need for additional state funding. The school in Herricks was established in 1813, making it one of the oldest in Nassau County. [1] [2] It was named for Herricks Path, a path that existed as early as 1659. [3] By 1898, the Herricks School was one of Nassau County's last single-room schools. [4] The Herricks Community Center is located just south of the High School.
