The Newtown Borough Historic District is a 100-acre (40 ha) historic district in the borough of Newtown in Newtown, Connecticut. There is a local historic district and an overlapping district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The Borough of Newtown occupies about 1,252 acres (5.07 km 2) (or roughly two square miles) in the central part of town. Incorporated in 1824 by an act of the Connecticut General Assembly, it is one of only nine remaining boroughs in the state. The main road connecting the city of Norwalk to the borough of Newtown was organized as a private turnpike in May 1829. South of Route 15, Main Street continues for another 0.3 miles (0.48 km) to the Bridgeport line as an unsigned state highway with designation State Road 731 and provides access to Trumbull Mall. Route 111 proceeds north, traveling near Island Brook Park, before intersecting Route 127 about 1.8 miles (2.9 km) north of Route 15.

The route then goes through the towns of Bethel and Newtown. In Newtown, it has a 2.8-mile (4.5 km) concurrency with Route 25 before turning east toward the village of Sandy Hook, where it enters I-84 once again for 6.4 miles (10.3 km) between Newtown and Southbury (from exits 10 to 15).
