Ward County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 11,644. [1] The county seat is Monahans. [2] The county was created in 1887 and organized in 1892. [3] It is named for Thomas W. Ward, a soldier in the Texas Revolution.

At the height of its operations, Cabot was second only to Gulf Oil as the largest private employer in Ward County. Although Wickett, like many West Texas communities, lost population in the 1950s and 1960s, the community was incorporated in March 1962 so that water and sewer services would be available to its residents.
