Van Nuys Boulevard is a major north-south arterial road that runs through the central San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, California.The boulevard was notable for its cruising lifestyle that was prevalent in the 1960s and 1970s, which was depicted in the 1979 film Van Nuys Blvd.
The United States Postal Service operates the Civic Center Van Nuys Post Office at 6200 Van Nuys Boulevard in Van Nuys (closed and moved outside the Van Nuys civic center to 6531 Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys, CA 91401) [22] and the Van Nuys Post Office at 15701 Sherman Way in the Lake Balboa neighborhood in Los Angeles, west of Van Nuys. The majority of Lake Balboa is located in Los Angeles City Council District 6, with a small portion at the northwest corner of the neighborhood falling into Los Angeles City Council District 12. In 1979 Northridge Hospital and Valley Hospital in Van Nuys created a joint parent company – HealthWest. HealthWest expanded to become a multi-hospital nonprofit. [2] In 1988, HealthWest merged with the Lutheran Hospital Society of Southern California, the parent company of California Hospital Medical Center, to form UniHealth. [3]

The "New" Van Nuys Branch library opened in 1964 in the then-new Van Nuys Civic Center. [2] The Mid-century modern style one-story masonry building extends out into the landscape with a modernist colonnade, and is shaded by groves of trees. The building was also headquarters for the Los Angeles Public Library's bookmobile service. [2]
