Included are areas that contain high concentrations of blacks or African Americans. Not counted are Afro-Caribbeans, Afro-Latinos, Afro-Asian, Afro-Indian, Afro-Polynesian, West African, and Sub-Saharan African immigrants.

Beech Settlement was a rural settlement in Ripley Township, Rush County, Indiana. Its early settlers were free people of color (most of them migrated from eastern North Carolina and Virginia) and a small number of free blacks, who came to the area with Quakers. Beech was one of Indiana's early black rural settlements and also one of its largest.
