The Joy of Painting is an American half-hour instructional television show.Created and hosted by painter Bob Ross, it ran from January 11, 1983, to May 17, 1994.In most episodes, Ross taught techniques for landscape oil painting, completing a painting in each session.
The Joy of Painting returned to television as "The Joy of Painting with Nicholas Hankins: Bob Ross's Unfinished Season." Nicholas Hankins, a Ross certified instructor, was the on-air host and painter. Hankins previously produced his own painting instructional videos. He released them through Bob Ross's YouTube page. Ross was born in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Jack and Ollie Ross, a carpenter and a waitress respectively, and raised in Orlando, Florida. [1] [2] As an adolescent, Ross cared for injured animals, including armadillos, snakes, alligators and squirrels, one of which was later featured in several episodes of his television show.
