Iodinated contrast is a form of water-soluble, intravenous radiocontrast agent containing iodine, which enhances the visibility of vascular structures and organs during radiographic procedures. Some pathologies, such as cancer , have particularly improved visibility with iodinated contrast.
Side effects from contrast agents, administered intravenously in some CT scans, might impair kidney performance in patients with kidney disease, although this risk is now believed to be lower than previously thought. [181] [178]
In CT scan, subdural hygroma will have same density as the normal CSF. Meanwhile, in MRI, subdural hygroma will have same intensity with CSF. A contrasted CT scan of the temporal bone can be done if the patient is unable to undergo MRI scan. [ 19 ] MRI scan is the imaging of choice because it can more accurately differentiate the mass from other tumors such as meningioma , facial nerve schwannoma, epidermoid cyst, arachnoid cyst, aneurysm, and brain metastasis.
