The Glasgow Courier is a weekly newspaper in Glasgow, Montana, USA, published on Wednesdays. [1] It began in 1913 [ 3 ] as T.J. Hocking's rebranding of the Valley County Independent , which itself succeeded The Montana Homestead , established in neighboring Hinsdale, Montana in 1904.

The newspaper was founded by an Edinburgh-born printer called John Mennons in January 1783 as a weekly publication called the Glasgow Advertiser. [7] Mennons' first edition had a global scoop: news of the treaties of Versailles [8] [9] reached Mennons via the Lord Provost of Glasgow just as he was putting the paper together.
From the 1980s he went on to write columns for the Glasgow Herald, with a brief move to The Scotsman in 1998 before returning to The Herald. He also contributed to the Glasgow Evening Times. [4] A collection of his columns was first published as The Bedside Urban Voltaire in 1990. More Bedside Urban Voltaire followed a year later. [2]
