It would be tough to establish rye into a perennial clover field. A pH of 6 is not the best for perennial clovers, you would need to lime for best results. I agree with Hoss on the fertilizer. If you have good soil P & K fertility, I might use some lawn fertilizer to boost the green biomass and protein content of the rye.
The oats nutrition(and more importantly, how much the deer like them) is dependant on the soil having the proper nutrients for the oats to draw on. A few dollars could save you a lot of wasted money, or atleast let you know where it could have been better spent. Forage oats do best with 50-60 units of nitrogen(1st 13 in 13-13-13).
Shown below is the small plot as of tonight, 7 days after the rain came. Not too bad for a by-hand plot in our miserable clay soil. Deer are starting to nibble at this - there have not been a lot of deer in this area so I am hoping there is still some of the rye left into the later season. Bow season starts in a week and 5 days.

i have very good luck with a winter mix of rye, oats and buck wheat. also mix in alittle bit of rape. My lease is located in Randolph Cnty, ga. over by Albany. usually put down some 10-10-10 fertilizer. winter plots need to be in the ground in south ga. in a couple more weeks.
I have planted winter rye and it is a great attractant. I have 2 plots a nutrional one for spring and summer (buck forage Chicory and ladino clover) and kill (harvest) plot which is the buck forage oats. I would go with the buck forage oats with out question. Deer eat on it 24/7. It is of course a fall planting. it is like cocaine to them.
Wildlife Management / Food Plots - Imperial Whitetail Clover - Nurse Crop - Any recommendations on the need for, or benefit of, using a nurse crop when planting Imperial Whitetail Clover? Wildlife Management / Food Plots - best food crop for deer when bear are present - We purcahsed a tract in NC at the Virgina border to deer hunt. Wildlife Management / Food Plots - Rye for a dove plot? - Last fall I planted some rye (the cereal grain, not the grass) for deer. I planted it along the edge of my dove plot. Now the rye is 24-30" tall and producing seed heads. Should I leave it standing until September? Would the seeds fall off by then? Should I
