The short description of a Wikipedia article or of another namespace page is a concise explanation of the scope of the page. These descriptions appear in Wikipedia mobile and some desktop searches, [ note 1 ] and help users identify the desired article.
"Articles" belong to the main namespace of Wikipedia pages (also called "article namespace" or simply "mainspace"). The main namespace, article namespace, or mainspace is the namespace of Wikipedia that contains the encyclopedia proper – that is, where "live" Wikipedia articles reside, as opposed to sandbox pages.
By default, adding a short description to a Wikipedia article also adds the description to Wikidata if missing there. This can be changed in the settings. To edit a short description that is already on Wikidata, click on one of the links (not shown in this example) in the Wikidata item description or Q-number to open the item at Wikidata.
The article meets the A-Class criteria: Provides a well-written, clear and complete description of the topic, as described in Wikipedia:Article development. It should be of a length suitable for the subject, appropriately structured, and be well referenced by a broad array of reliable sources.
An article on Wikipedia should contain content which causes that article to actually cover the stated topic of that article. The title of an article is an important ingredient, albeit an obvious one, in accurately delineating the topic, scope, and focus of that article.
This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories.
