In another, a student went so far over that their mark fell from what would have been a mid-2.1 to a high third, as we had to apply the stated penalty for each % over the word limit. It transpired afterwards that they had submitted an earlier, unedited version of the essay, but unfortunately there's nothing you can do.
Obviously I can put them on another document, but I am using a lot of automation in my document (automatic contents page, automatic sourcing, automatic cross-referencing for figures in appendix), also using an automatic word count field on my cover page which needs to be accurate. Any advice, would be much appreciated! D
