The pier has been a gathering place for the citizens of Hanalei since it was abandoned for shipping in 1933. It was also the main filming area for the 1954 film Beachhead [6] and the 1957 film South Pacific. The Nā Pali coast itself extends southwest from Keʻe Beach all the way to Polihale State Park. The nā pali (many cliffs) along the shoreline rise as much as 4,000 feet (1,200 m) above the Pacific Ocean. The state park was formed to protect the Kalalau Valley. To the east of the state park is the Hono O Nā Pali State Natural Reserve.
Honopū Valley and Beach sit along the northwest shore of the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi, on the Na Pali coast. [2] The valley is isolated and not easily accessible except by water.
