Car runs smooth. I needed up selling to Carvana for 15 percent more than CarMax’s INITIAL offer and had no issues thus far (check clears both banks after a few days) Had a great experience a week ago selling to CarMax. Honored their online offer price. Gave me my plates back after inspecting the car.
Share. andy_337. • 1 yr. ago. I bought my car brand new back in 2019 for $22,800. I sold that same car to Carmax last August after 43,000 miles and several dings and scratches for $22,500 and was able to use the $7,000 positive equity as a down payment for a truck. I essentially paid a principal of $300 to own that car for over 3 years.
Literally just sold my wife's car to Carmax about an hour ago. Registration expired last month (3/21) but they didn't say a single thing about it. This was Maryland. 3. sperrin87. • 3 yr. ago. Give them a call - you’ll have a definitive answer. 2. dantasticdanimal.

I sold an old car to carmax for about 50 % more than the trade in offer. The offer was exactly what was estimated online from their site. The catch to dealer trade in vs selling your car is that, in both states I've experienced, the sales tax is levied on the difference between the trade in and selling price.
Carvana and Driveway say it's worth $300-350. Carmax offers $2300. No idea what all that means. Don’t forget taxes, if you are buying another car, you don’t have to pay taxes on the trade amount. for instance you buy at Carmax 25k car, they give you $25k for your car, you pay zero sales tax.
At Carmax with an appointment, around 2 hours from my experience. They have to appraise it then give you an offer (about an hour). If you decide to sell it, then another hour. If they are busy, maybe 3 hours. If you have equity on the car, you'll get a check same day. 5.
Sell it privately You will get at least $3000 more than Carmax will offer. Don't understand why people don't know to NEVER trade a car in Always sell it privately. My mother in laws 2011 Jeep with only 83K miles. got quotes Carmax $8000 Carvana $9800, I just sold it privately on Facebook for $11,400 in 1 day. NEVER trade in a car.
Convenience (trade-in by itself): Carvana wins, because they come pick up the car from you. Price: private party sale because you get to pocket the full value of the transaction (just make sure you are paid in a cashier's check or cash) Convenience (trade-in + new car): Carmax because they do the trade-in and sell you the new car.
Dirk_Beefslab. ADMIN MOD. Selling a car to Carvana: my experience (so far) Some life changes this fall have enabled my family to go down to one car, so we opted to keep the larger vehicle and sell the smaller vehicle. I used to love wheeling and dealing on used cars, but as I’ve gotten older, the less I like dealing with the general public.
