However, they were believed to be commissioned by Pedro Salazar de Mendoza as they were found to be a part of his personal collection after his death. Salazar was very passionate about Toledo in every aspect. Due to Salazar's love of the city, it is believed to have inspired El Greco to paint both View of Toledo and View and Plan of Toledo. [2]
The painting takes a view of Toledo from the north looking southward. This could be interpreted as a view from the tower of the Tavera Hospital or from the gallows near the cemetery. [ 5 ] Many major landmarks of the city are recognizable, including the Bisagra Gate , the Toledo Cathedral , the Alcázar de Toledo and Saint Martin's Bridge .

Hospital de Tavera, Toledo Baptism of Christ is a 1608–1614 painting by El Greco , made towards the end of his life in Toledo and completed by his son Jorge Manuel Theotocópuli . It is now in the Hospital de Tavera in Toledo .
