I was undergoing medical treatment for a primary brain tumor, and frankly, wasn't driving, so dealing with car-related stuff simply wasn't a priority for me at the time.

It took some pondering, but I pulled the trigger and emailed the director of Maryland's CCU (Central Collections Unit) which gathers and enforces all "state" debt for Maryland.

It depends on the specific storage lien laws in the state where the storage facility is located. Generally, facilities will do periodic auctions of storage units that are delinquent beyond the lien deadline. Money collected from the auction is applied to the balance due on each auctioned unit's account.
