Each SEGL in Johannesburg student has an African Leadership Academy student as a roommate. The School provides three meals a day (brunch and dinner on Sundays) and can accommodate most food needs. Weekend activities are often student-designed. This provides students with additional leadership opportunities and helps meet student interests.

The campus is located in Honeydew, on the outskirts of Johannesburg. Students share a dormitory, and there are modern facilities including a sports field, a 450 seater auditorium, classrooms and a dining hall. In 2016, ALA renovated its dormitories, allowing the school to increase the number of students in each class by 30%.
