Don't be a nitwit. A good name is short, to the point, descriptive, and powerful. For example, Killing Time, Defiant, Warspite. Contrast with The Dark And Brooding Cloak of Untrammeled Destiny. Maybe throw some Deaths or weaponry terms in there for good measure.

51 votes, 102 comments. true. there are actually a lot of UNSC ships named after famous battles throughout history including; Trafalgar, Agincourt, Stalingrad, Bunker Hill, Iwo Jima, Monte Cassino, Thermoplyae, Saratoga, Coral Sea, Austerliz, Midway and Waterloo.
All the A-class had names starting with A, the B-class names started with B and so on. The exceptions ingame are Campbeltown thanks to the lend-lease deal having its own theme, the Tribal class (Cossack, Haida, etc) and Battle class (Jutland) which followed their own themes and the Daring -class…which still managed to all have names starting ...

Stuff like Wasp, Boxer, Essex and Barb. That sort of thing. There's a cool pedigree to it. Next- battles/military actions Gettysburg, Iwo-Jima, Bataan, Tripoli, Leyte-Gulf. Etc. Because once more, the history associated with it. Place names just feel generically meh. I wouldn't mind the people names as much if we stuck with last names.

There's also the "Klingons" category for if you want to name a ship after a particular person, while the articles in the "Unnamed Klingons" category also gives more (non-canon) names. The "Hand-held weapons" category also lists Klingon weapons, which seem like something they'd name a ship after. Romulan names can be aquired the same way.
