Breakout and Circus Atari are UNPLAYABLE with the joystick. So, when I saw the PADDLE plug and play, that also included breakout, as well as super breakout (eh), night driver (yes!), and a dozen or so others, I HAD to get it (about twice the price of the joystick plug and play, but came w/two paddles for 2up action).
Super Breakout for the Atari 5200 is a fine enough game in and of itself, if a bit austere compared to most other games that were coming out. It was just a fantastically poor choice of launch-day pack-in for the 5200 system (Atari changed it to Pac-Man later).
Note that another set of Paddle Controllers will be necessary for three or four-player games. Note: Always turn the console power switch OFF when inserting or removing an ATARI Game Program. This will protect the electronic components and prolong the life of your ATARI Video Computer System. HOW TO PLAY BREAKOUT SMASH! POW! CRUNCH!
So while I wait for parts on the sad g05 that likes to blow up. I'm working on restoring an atari breakout, finally got the crappy tm-600 bw monitor running. To no surprise I found the board having issues. Board #1 The board will boot but random stuff will happen. Sometimes attract mode will...

No sound effects. Anyone know if there's a site somewhere that has all the original sounds? Also, anyo...
Breakout: On desktop/laptop, be sure to keep your cursor inside the gameplay area or you won’t be able to slide the paddle. Breakout: To move the paddles, use the touchpad or mouse or drag your finger on the mobile touchscreen. To drop a new ball, click on the gameplay area. General Tips - All Atari Games:

What's new: The issue newcoleco mentioned has been fixed. The delay code wasn't triggering properly. The fire button will be ignored for 2 seconds when you win now (same time frame used for the normal game over).
Like you said Joey it's just got a transformer in it, the gameboard on the early Atari games actually has a power supply on it, similar to how Pac-Man and other early games were. Just fixing the boards power supply is going to be cheaper and more reliable than hacking the cabinet and the gameboard to run off a switcher...
