Lake Thirteen is a man made public lake with boat launch access for residents of Lake Thirteen and their guests. Private homes & cabins surround Lake Thirteen The lake is located in Surrey Township, Michigan Surrey Township, Clare County, Michigan. The lake spans about 95 acres (38 ha), and reaches a maximum depth of about 32 feet (9.8 m). [1]
As of the census [3] of 2000, there were 3,555 people, 1,444 households, and 984 families residing in the township. The population density was 100.8 inhabitants per square mile (38.9/km 2).
This estate was the birthplace of W.H.L McCourtie, a Somerset Center native who made his fortune in the Texas oil boom. McCourtie returned to Somerset Center in 1922 and built an estate as a social center of the town. Around 1930, McCourtie hired two itinerant Mexican artisans, George Cardoso and Ralph Corona, to build 17 concrete bridges here.
Farwell Lake is both a lake and the surrounding unincorporated community in the southeast corner of the township. The north branch of the Kalamazoo River rises near Farwell Lake. Horton (/'hoɻ.ʔən̪/) is an unincorporated community in the northeast part of the township.
In Isabella County to the south, the Lake post office serves portions of Coldwater, Gilmore, and Sherman townships. [2] [3] The Pere Marquette State Trail is a 55-mile-long (89 km) multi-use trail that runs from Clare to Baldwin along the former railway lines. The community of Lake contains a trailhead called Lake Station Depot. [13]
There is another interchange near Lake Thirteen for Old State Avenue that provides access to Farwell. About five miles (8.0 km) east of here, US 10 meets US 127 north of Clare. These two freeways merge and run south toward Clare, using the mileposting and exit numbering of US 127 along the concurrency.
Farwell is a village in Clare County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 880 at the 2020 census . The village is located within Surrey Township about 4.0 miles (6.4 km) west of the city of Clare .
