Boulder Junction is a town in Vilas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 956 at the 2018 census. In 1903, the Milwaukee Railroad laid tracks to the area that became known as Boulder Junction. While the railroad served the booming logging industry, it also attracted outdoors enthusiasts who came to fish and hunt.
White Birch Village is located East of Highway K in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin on White Birch Lake. White Birch Lake is connected to Ballard and Irving lakes through a shallow channel. White Birch Lake is also known for being a small, uncrowded fishing lake.
On the afternoon of April 20, 1934, Baby Face Nelson, John Dillinger, Homer Van Meter, Tommy Carroll, John Hamilton, and gang associate (errand-runner) Pat Reilly, accompanied by Nelson's wife Helen and three girlfriends of the other men, arrived at the secluded Little Bohemia Lodge in Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, for a weekend of rest. Trout Lake is in Vilas County, Wisconsin, near the towns of Boulder Junction and Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin. With a surface area of 6.208 sq mi (16.079 km 2) and a volume of 0.058 cu mi (0.240 km 3), Trout Lake is one of the largest lakes in Vilas County. The town is served by four Vilas County Trunk Highways. CTH W leads west and south through Winchester and Manitowish Waters to a connection with USH 51. CTH B runs east–west through the town and connects with M-64 about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the village of Presque Isle, to the east it connects with USH 45 and STH 32 at Land o' Lakes.
