St. Marys is a city in Camden County, Georgia, United States, located on the southern border of Camden County on the St. Marys River in the state's Low Country. It had a population of 18,256 at the 2020 census , up from 17,121 at the 2010 census .
The Elisha Winn House served as Gwinnett County's first courthouse. The Historic Gwinnett County Courthouse (no longer used). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 437 square miles (1,130 km 2), of which 430 square miles (1,100 km 2) is land and 6.4 square miles (17 km 2) (1.5%) is water. [13]
Camden County's southern border area, in a line from Charlton County to St. Marys, is located in the St. Marys River sub-basin of the same St. Marys-Satilla basin. [ 26 ] The 1898 Georgia hurricane which made landfall on Cumberland Island in Camden County was the strongest hurricane to hit the state of Georgia within recorded history.

In 1978, the two libraries in Kingsland and St Marys were officially designated as Camden County Public Library and St Marys Public Library. [6] The regional library system was renamed as the Three Rivers Regional Library System in 2000, [7] a nod to the three rivers -- the Altamaha, the Satilla, and the St. Marys-- that tie the region together.
