Cheektowaga (/ ˌ t ʃ i k t ə ˈ w ɑː ɡ ə /; Seneca: Chictawauga) is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, the town has grown to a population of 89,877. [ 3 ] The town is in the north-central part of the county, and is an inner ring suburb of Buffalo .
The village was incorporated in 1896 from part of Cheektowaga. With the CSX Frontier yard to the village's north and the Norfolk Southern Bison yard to the village's south, it was a historically important railroad town like nearby Depew. These yards were originally the New York Central and Erie-Lackawanna, respectively. [citation needed]
