Airport Carbon Accreditation is a global carbon management programme for airports that independently assesses and recognises airports' efforts to manage and reduce their CO 2 emissions. Aircraft emissions, which are many times greater than airport emissions, are not included in the programme.
Airport Carbon Accreditation was launched as an independent, voluntary program in 2009 after the adoption of a resolution on climate change in 2008 at the annual assembly of ACI Europe. Member airports are committed to reduce carbon emissions from their operations, with the ultimate goal of becoming carbon neutral.

The carboNZero programme and CEMARS programme are the world’s first internationally accredited greenhouse gas (GHG) certification schemes under ISO 14065. They provide tools for organisations, products, services and events to measure and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions (otherwise known as carbon footprint), and optionally offset it.
On 11 January 2013 the airport was accepted into Airport Carbon Accreditation emission managing and reduction programme by ACI. [21] The year 2013 saw an introduction of an automatic border control system and a start of construction of a new business aviation hangar complex.
