There are regular 7-1/4 inch fiber “blades” for cutting metals with your regular circular saw, available at most all hardware places. They mount just like a wood cutting blade, work just like it, and do a bang-up job of cutting sheet metal barn siding and roofing materials. Get SEVERAL, as they eat themselves away as they cut the metal.
We have also used to cut metal roofing panels one of the new little plasma cutters that runs on air. Good cut, but it took a very steady hand to free cut with it. The battery operated grinders/cutters are one of our best, most used tools. Our new, small and light battery Milwaukee one is working extremely well.
Texarkana May 22, 2024, 10:32am #2. So I’ve tried this and it didn’t help. But here’s my thing- the rock salt is going to attract moisture. So it’s going to make the area perpetually more damp than if there was no salt. I think the idea of salting hay to prevent moisture must have originated in a low humidity climate.
I use electrician scissors. Small at about 6 inches, but strong and very sharp. They are my “go-to” cutting tool and multi use device around the farm. They turn screws, cut hoses for repair, fingernails if you snap one! Also cut small wire and strip insulation off wire, cut heavy plastic, leather, slice open boxes.
We actually got all the building materials from the metal roofing right down to the light fixtures and electrical wire from Home Depot for a 24x36’ barn, delivered, for about $9,000. That included EVERYTHING needed to build the barn (except the concrete foundation). horsepoor August 22, 2020, 8:00pm #8.
Most metal roofing is nailed to purlins with the majority of the metal exposed in between. A pellet gun can easily go through most metal roof that is used these days. OBS sheeting has been used for years now for roof decks. Pretty easy to punch through this stuff depending on thickness.
Look at the CFM (how much air it moves) of this 36" fan vs your standard 20" box fan from Walmart: 13,200 cubic feet per minute vs 2,500 CFM. It won’t cool the air down if it’s just as hot outside as in. But it will promote evaporation, so when the horses sweat it will be effective at cooling them. 5 Likes.
horsepoor November 18, 2020, 5:36pm #8. Two friends had paddocks up against metal siding and both experienced terrible injuries because of it. In the one instance, horse kicked through the metal and lacerated his leg quite badly. He was a pretty calm easygoing older guy, but got spooked by fireworks.
arlosmine August 26, 2020, 10:30am #9. I know a pony who broke her back and died after being tied to a hitching rail. She fell and got up with the rail over her back. She struggled, broke her back and had to be shot on the spot. In front of her little girl.
Horse had backed up a step in the trailer when we started to move, and the butt strap had NOT held him off the ramp. The ramp do up had broken then. She stopped to pick it up, and followed me home. This trailer was taken to our local trailer guy, who nodded knowingly. This is a thing that happens with butt “straps” rather than bars.
