I love Adobe LR and Photoshop and still use it (older versions) plus other editing up-to-date software, but I never will go with the rental idea. And to use your tool rental note…. it is like taking away your tire removing tool…. you can still use your current tires but no longer able to replace or change the tires if it goes flat.
My typical workflow involves use of virtual copies, and after making edits in Lr I will frequently invoke 'Edit in Adobe Photoshop' to continue editing. There are no problems if, in Lr, I have applied only dcp profiles, whether the Adobe Raw profiles, Camera Matching profiles or Adobe's Enhanced profiles (i.e., Artistic, B&W, Modern and Vintage).
