Click View Historical Imagery. This feature isn’t available if you’re using the Map basemap. To enable this feature, change your basemap to Satellite. Select how you want to view the map. To turn on historical imagery view, at the top left, click Historical imagery . To turn on timelapse, at the top left, click Timelapse . A timeline appears.
To change your view: Drag the screen. To return to a north-facing view: At the bottom right, click the compass . If you move to a new area, white arrows appear onscreen. Click an arrow to move in that direction.

Google Maps offers two views for walking navigation: the 2D map and Live View. With Live View, you get directions placed in the real world and on a mini map at the bottom of your screen. You can use Live View navigation during the walking portion of any type of trip. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Maps app .
Most Street View imagery is captured by Google (and some external providers), so that is likely why it is more updated. Some areas are updated more frequently than others, and even if Maps imagery is outdated, Google Earth may have more recent imagery (using the historical imagery feature) that is not always used on Maps.
Thank you for posting, and welcome to the Google Maps Community Support Forum. AFAIK clicking on the layers remains the usual way to switch to the satellite view. Could you explain how Zoom Out switched to the satellite view without invoking the layers option?
Hi,Thanks for posting in Google help Forums, Open Google maps>Go to 3 lines Menu at top left,Scroll down to Settings>Scroll down to Navigation Settings>Scroll down to Colour scheme,Select your choice.When Night is selected,Regardless of time Settings,Maps go to night mode always in Navigation mode.
How can we update the satellite image shown on the map. I;m trying to find out of there is a way to update the satellite image shown on the map ourselves or if this is something only possible by google.

Hello, I have a problem with google maps. When viewing satellite imagery, I am constantly shown satellite imagery from 2006 and am unable to switch the map to the latest imagery.
