Click on "Edit" -- then select "Preferences". Scroll down to and check "Edit Settings" for "Convert From PDF" and "Convert to PDF". and ensure that all the settings are set to their defaulted values (or change as needed) to see if this works. Also check out these threads for additional insights:

There is a way to do this, but you will need to use the FORMS tools. It would require 2 form fields for each popup. One would be an Image Field, and the other would be a button. The image field would be hidden by default. The button would have no fill or stroke – basically invisible. The button would have two actions:
