William Hopper's mother was Hedda Hopper, one of the most important gossip columnists of the day, so maybe that was taken care of "in house" as it were. The whole show was based on the atomic tensions at the center of a menage a trois: Perry loves Della, Della loves Paul, Paul loves Perry.
J.E. Freeman, who played the vicious thug in Miller’s Crossing. The character is written to be gay, but Freeman himself didn’t ping, for me at least. Ben Aldridge from Fleabag doesn’t ping at all on screen. But when he isn’t acting, boy do the handbags 👜 fly out.
September 15, 2021 4:08 PM. Only two persons claim Stephen Boyd was gay; Raquel Welch and Miss Bitchy Bottom, John Gielgud. Ms. Welch's main reason for calling Mr. Boyd gay was frustrated sexual attraction and love unrequited. She wanted the man badly, but he didn't give her the time of day in that way.
[quote]On a related note, I saw an old movie from the Thirties on TCM recently. One of the leads was William Hopper, who played Paul Drake on PM. "Mason" premiered in the late Fifties, so Hopper must have been no spring chicken when he was on the show. He was also (1) Hedda Hopper's son, and (2) Rhoda's daddy in "The Bad Seed."
C*nt of the Month: Hedda Hopper. Let's discuss this mediocre actress turned Hollywood gossip columnist, and the many enemies she made along the way. Starting out as a bit player in the silent era (most of her films have since been lost), Hedda Hopper aged out before her star could soar, and she took up gossip as a means of supporting herself ...
William Hopper, the actor who played Paul Drake on the original "Perry Mason" TV series, is the son of that infamous old bag Hollywood columnist, Hedda Hopper. Barbara Hale, who played secretary Della Street, on that same series is the mother of William Katt, who starred in "The Greatest American Hero."
The Case of the Howling Dog (1934) was one of the early Perry Mason movies. It was the first of a series of films where Perry was played by William Warren. Mary Astor did star in the picture along with Warren. Astor did a lot of TV in the ‘50s and early ‘60s, but as far as I can tell, she never appeared on Perry Mason.
William Shatner's third wife drowned in their swimming pool under mysterious circumstances, but I don't think Shatner was ever accused of anything. Didn't Louise Lasser get arrested for attempting to shoplift a dollhouse? Speaking of shoplifting: Winona Rider. Dana Plato robbed a video store at gunpoint. Robert Mitchum was arrested for smoking pot.
April 13, 2022 3:40 AM. An old friend worked a summer in a big vacation house owned by Lee Majors. One morning, the phone started ringing and went on incessantly. She went into one of the upstairs bedrooms screaming "Isn't anyone going to answer the fucking phone", and there was Lee, fucking one of his drivers. "Take a message", the driver yelled.
One of Hollywood's most legendary supposed drunks was Dean Martin, but he actually didn't drink nearly as much as people thought. The tumbler of "gin" he carried with him on his show was usually only filled with water. He just thought people found him more charming when they thought he was drunk. by Anonymous.
